About the Internship

The SHE Implementation Internship is designed to provide graduates with structured learning, mentorship, and workplace experience. Interns will be actively involved in supporting SHE initiatives and will gain first-hand exposure to both administrative and operational functions within a leading research and technology environment.

The program allows interns to develop skills in SHE management systems, regulatory compliance, workplace safety, incident management, risk assessments, and SHE audits.


Key Responsibilities

As a SHE Implementation Intern, your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting monthly SHE management walkabouts (MBWAs) for all divisional and support portfolio S16.2 appointees.

  • Following up on MBWA findings to ensure corrective actions are implemented in line with SHE requirements.

  • Assisting with the follow-up and tracking of SHE incidents, non-conformities, and Corrective Action Requests (CARs).

  • Monitoring SHE risk assessments to ensure timely completion, approval, and updates.

  • Participating in internal and external SHEQ audits.

  • Supporting emergency evacuation drills and contributing to safety preparedness.

  • Attending and maintaining accurate records of SHE committee meetings.

  • Assisting in reviewing and updating SHE procedures and processes for divisions and support portfolios.

  • Providing support to SHE Representatives, Impact Area Managers, and Research Group Leaders with inspections, procurement, and record-keeping.

  • Ensuring compliance with the SHEQ Document Management Procedure by maintaining documented information.

  • Assisting with the development of the annual SHE training calendar and coordinating relevant training.

  • Participating in incident investigations and submitting required reports.

  • Responding effectively to SHE service requests within the division or support portfolio.


Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

To qualify for this internship, candidates should meet the following requirements:

  • A three-year National Diploma (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant SHE field.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Knowledge of SHE Management Systems and their implementation.

  • Familiarity with the SHE regulatory framework (e.g., Occupational Health and Safety Act, National Environmental Management Act) will be an added advantage.

  • Excellent administrative and report-writing skills.

  • Proficiency in computer literacy (MS Office Suite).
