This is a full-time, permanent position offering a competitive salary of R28 000 – R30 000 per month. About the Role

As an Employee Benefits Consultant, you will oversee the full spectrum of death, disability, and funeral claims while ensuring strict adherence to legal and internal protocols. You will serve as a trusted advisor to employers, trustees, and members, providing expert guidance on retirement fund structures and employee benefits.

Your work will involve client consultations, governance duties, claims management, and strategic input to help the business grow and maintain compliance with industry regulations.

Key Responsibilities

You will be expected to:

  • Client Consulting & Advisory

    • Provide professional financial advice in compliance with the FAIS Act and Codes of Conduct.

    • Consult and service a portfolio of clients in line with the agreed service model.

    • Prepare and present trustee board and employer meeting packs, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information.

  • Claims & Benefits Administration

    • Manage and finalise death, disability, severe illness, and funeral benefit claims.

    • Liaise with insurers to ensure prompt payments and resolve complex claim issues.

    • Monitor investigations on death claims and consult with trustees for finalisation.

  • Governance & Compliance

    • Ensure compliance with Pension Fund, FAIS, and related legislation.

    • Approve and maintain client mandates, agreements, and special rules.

    • Manage section 14 transfers, rule amendments, and deregistration of terminated funds.

  • Strategic & Business Development

    • Retain and grow existing client relationships while identifying new business opportunities.

    • Participate in mergers and acquisitions to support business expansion.

    • Monitor market trends and recommend product or process improvements.

  • Team & Process Management

    • Supervise allocated support staff and coordinate with internal departments.

    • Oversee workflow tasks for client meetings, risk renewals, housing loans, underwriting, and member queries.

    • Update retirement fund education materials and present at annual training events.


Minimum Requirements

  • Education & Certifications

    • Matric with Higher Grade Maths.

    • Relevant tertiary qualification (Finance, Economics, or related) preferred.

    • FAIS qualification is essential.

    • Membership of a professional body such as FPI is advantageous.

  • Experience

    • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar environment.

    • At least 3–5 years’ employee benefits consulting experience.

    • Strong knowledge of pension funds, retirement fund law, FAIS compliance, and governance.

  • Technical Skills

    • Advanced MS Excel with solid MS Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook skills.

    • Ability to interpret complex pension fund legislation and provide practical solutions.
