As part of our Fedics division, we are seeking an experienced and passionate Cook – Healthwise to join our team in Korsten, Gqeberha (Eastern Cape).


About the Role

The Cook – Healthwise role is central to the success of our catering operations. This position is ideal for an enthusiastic individual who thrives in a fast-paced kitchen environment and is passionate about preparing nutritious, high-quality meals.

The successful candidate will not only handle day-to-day cooking responsibilities but also contribute to menu innovation, purchasing, food quality monitoring, and operational improvements. In this role, you will support Tsebo’s mission of delivering nutritious meals and excellent service while ensuring compliance with hygiene, safety, and company standards.


Key Responsibilities

As a Cook – Healthwise, your core duties and responsibilities will include:

  1. Food Preparation and Cooking

    • Preparing and cooking meats, fish, vegetables, soups, cereals, gravies, and bakery products.

    • Cooking meals to meet customer specifications, including special dietary requirements based on recipes developed by qualified personnel.

    • Using standardized recipe cards to maintain consistency and quality in all dishes.

    • Grilling, frying, baking, and sautéing as required.

    • Preparing salads, desserts, and other side dishes to complement main meals.

  2. Customer Service and Order Management

    • Taking customer orders and ensuring they are prepared to high standards.

    • Managing work orders to ensure all items in an order are completed and served simultaneously.

    • Serving food promptly and courteously, maintaining customer satisfaction.

  3. Training and Team Collaboration

    • Assisting in on-the-job training of food service workers, kitchen assistants, and students.

    • Supporting and guiding other employees within the kitchen environment.

    • Communicating effectively with managers, supervisors, and kitchen personnel.

  4. Purchasing and Supplies

    • Notifying supervisors of food and supply requirements.

    • Checking in food and supplies upon delivery.

    • Maintaining records of food production and consumption.

  5. Sanitation and Safety

    • Cleaning the kitchen, utensils, and equipment.

    • Ensuring freezers and refrigerators are properly secured.

    • Maintaining maximum standards of food safety and sanitation.

    • Reporting equipment malfunctions or food quality concerns to the Kitchen Manager.

  6. Shift Flexibility

    • Being available for shift work, including weekends, public holidays, and evenings as required.


Skills and Competencies

To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate should demonstrate the following skills and competencies:

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Strong customer focus and service orientation.

  • Effective multitasking abilities in a high-pressure environment.

  • Strong attention to detail in food preparation and presentation.

  • Physical stamina to work standing for long periods of time.

  • Clear and effective communication skills with both management and kitchen staff.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a team-driven environment.


Qualifications and Experience

  • Matric (Grade 12) is required.

  • Relevant cooking or culinary qualification will be advantageous.

  • Minimum of 2–4 years’ experience in kitchen preparation and cooking.

  • Experience in large-scale catering or institutional food service will be an advantage.
