Position Overview

Dis-Chem Pharmacies requires a Merchandiser for their Gateway store in Umhlanga. This permanent, entry-level role ensures that merchandising standards are consistently executed, stock is accurately displayed, and customers receive exceptional service.

Purpose of the Role

The Merchandiser is responsible for maintaining store and product presentation, ensuring stock availability, supporting sales growth, and assisting customers effectively. The role involves restocking shelves, monitoring expiry dates, rotating stock, and keeping displays visually appealing while adhering to Dis-Chem’s operational standards.

Key Responsibilities

Merchandising and Stock Management

Restock merchandise to ensure maximum sales potential
Store and pack delivered stock or stock pulled from the storeroom in the correct location
Ensure products on shelves are within their sell-by dates
Maintain full product range on shelves at all times
Rotate stock regularly using FIFO (first-in, first-out) methods
Report low stock levels, out-of-stock items, damaged or expired stock
Assist with counting stock files and general stocktaking
Adhere to Dis-Chem’s operating standards, store layouts, and planograms
Build, face up, and maintain merchandising displays

Customer Service and Support

Provide friendly, helpful, and courteous assistance to all customers
Resolve customer stock queries and follow up on out-of-stock items
Assist with loading and off-loading of stock
Support back-shopping and training of new staff
Ensure correct uniform and badge are worn at all times

Housekeeping and Safety

Keep the store and merchandising displays clean and tidy
Flatten boxes after unpacking stock and move to designated areas
Minimise losses by handling merchandise carefully
Adhere to Dis-Chem policies, SOPs, and health and safety regulations

Minimum Requirements

Education

Grade 12 / Matric

Experience

Up to 6 months’ retail experience (essential)
At least 1 year retail experience (advantageous)

Skills and Competencies

Strong command of English
Customer service and engagement skills
Presentable and professional appearance
Trustworthy, honest, and reliable
Time management and organisational skills
Bilingualism and FMCG merchandising knowledge (advantageous)
Ability to analyse ZMORE reports for stock and ordering

Special Conditions

Willingness to work retail hours, including weekends
Physically able to lift and move heavy boxes safely
Reliable transport or residence close to the store
South African citizenship
Clear credit and criminal records
