Position Overview

Hire Resolve’s client is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic on a 12-month fixed-term contract in Johannesburg, Gauteng. The Diesel Mechanic will inspect, maintain, and repair diesel-powered vehicles and heavy mining equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant operation.

Purpose of the Role

The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for maintaining mechanical and electrical systems of vehicles and mining equipment, performing preventative and breakdown maintenance, and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards. This role ensures equipment reliability, supports mining operations continuity, and reduces downtime through expert maintenance and rapid response.

Key Responsibilities

Mechanical Maintenance

Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical faults on diesel-powered vehicles and heavy equipment
Perform preventative, planned, and breakdown maintenance on engines, transmissions, braking, and related systems
Conduct quality checks to ensure reliability and operational safety

Documentation and Compliance

Maintain accurate maintenance records and job documentation using relevant systems
Adhere to all health and safety regulations and maintain a clean, safe working environment

Operational Support

Provide standby and breakdown support as required to ensure mining operations continuity
Work collaboratively with other technical staff and supervisors to meet operational targets

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

Grade 12 / Matric
Diesel Mechanic Trade Test Certificate
Qualification in Engineering Studies (N3/N4)

Experience

3–5 years’ experience as a Diesel Mechanic in mining or heavy vehicle environments
Advanced knowledge of modern vehicle electrical systems
Experience with MANN truck brand

Additional Requirements

Valid Driver’s License
Physically fit and able to work in mining environments

Strong mechanical and electrical diagnostic skills

Ability to work independently and under pressure
Problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities

Benefits

Market-related salary: R250,000 – R300,000 per annum
Paid Time Off (PTO) (if applicable)
