Position Overview
Dis-Chem Marine Walk is seeking a Frontshop Assistant to uphold merchandising standards and provide excellent customer service at the point of sale. This role supports sales, stock management, and customer engagement in accordance with company policies and procedures.
This role is ideal for candidates interested in retail assistant roles, frontshop sales positions, and entry-level FMCG careers.
Purpose of the Role
The Frontshop Assistant ensures that product displays are maintained, stock is available and correctly presented, and all transactions are accurately processed. This role helps maximize sales, supports customer satisfaction, and ensures compliance with health, safety, and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
Merchandising and Stock Management
Ensure all product ranges are on shelves and neatly presented
Maintain stock on shelves, monitoring sell-by dates
Restock merchandise to ensure maximum sales potential
Follow up on out-of-stock customer queries promptly
Store and pack delivered stock or stock pulled from the storeroom correctly
Ensure displays, labels, and pricing are accurate
Keep storerooms organized, neat, and tidy
Facilitate rotation of stock regularly according to Dis-Chem procedures
Report low stock levels, damaged or expired stock, and assist with stocktaking
Assist with loading and off-loading of stock and flattening boxes
Customer Service and Sales Support
Provide friendly, helpful, and courteous assistance to all customers
Process all purchases accurately, including cash, cards, vouchers, and loyalty programs
Accept returned goods when authorized and manage exchanges
Ensure outgoing stock/items/scripts are scanned and paid for
Assist with training new and existing team members
Report customer compliments, complaints, or suspicious behaviour to management
Adhere to customer turnover per hour benchmarks
Operational Compliance
Maintain daily cash flow accuracy, including line voids and approvals
Adhere to Dis-Chem Policies, Standard Operating Procedures, and Health & Safety regulations
Ensure correct uniform and professional appearance at all times
Maintain housekeeping standards throughout the store
Minimum Requirements
Education
Grade 12 / Matric or Senior Certificate
Experience
0–6 months retail experience (essential)
1 year retail experience or Retail Business Management certification (advantageous)
Skills and Competencies
Knowledge of retail operations and administration
Ability to resolve issues and escalate appropriately
Basic arithmetic and numeracy skills
Effective verbal communication and customer service skills
Ability to follow procedures and take personal responsibility for work quality
Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook) and SAP (advantageous)
Special Conditions
Willing to work retail hours, including weekends
South African citizen with clear credit record and no criminal record
Driver’s license and reliable transport
