Position Overview
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a Post-Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant to join its Thatcfield store in Centurion. This entry-level permanent role focuses on delivering high-quality pharmaceutical care by supporting the responsible pharmacist and ensuring patients’ medicine-related needs are met accurately, ethically, and in compliance with South African pharmacy legislation.
The successful candidate will operate within a fast-paced retail pharmacy environment, ensuring safe dispensing practices, excellent customer service, and strict adherence to SAPC regulations and Dis-Chem standard operating procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines
- Support the compounding, preparation, and manipulation of non-sterile medicines
- Assist with manufacturing and re-packaging of medicines according to approved SOPs
- Accurately interpret prescriptions under the supervision of a registered pharmacist
- Capture and verify script and patient information on pharmacy systems
- Ensure correct picking, packing, labelling, and checking of medication
- Provide clear and accurate instructions to patients on medicine usage
- Assist with ordering, receiving, and controlling pharmacy stock (Schedules 1–6)
- Monitor stock levels and report shortages or discrepancies
- Process medical aid claims and resolve rejected scripts
- Support chronic, HIV/AIDS, oncology, and family planning authorisations
- Maintain and update patient profiles and ensure correct data merging
- Assist with stock takes and exercise stock, cash, and asset control
- Deliver professional advice on self-medication and front-shop products
- Promote health awareness and customer education
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric certificate
- Post-Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification
- Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
- Experience working on Unisolv
- Computer literate (MS Office)
- Strong numerical skills
- Excellent command of English and at least one additional language
- Willing and able to work retail hours
Advantageous Skills & Experience
- Retail or FMCG pharmacy experience
- Third additional language
- Knowledge of SAP and E-Scripting
- Experience in complementary medicine, drug counselling, and family planning
