Position Overview

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is currently recruiting a Casual Merchandiser for its Musgrave store in Durban. This entry-level retail role is ideal for candidates seeking part-time work in the FMCG and retail sector.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining merchandising standards, ensuring shelves are fully stocked, products are displayed correctly, and customers receive friendly, professional assistance at all times.


Key Responsibilities

  • Restock merchandise to ensure optimal product availability and maximum sales
  • Store delivered stock correctly and within required timeframes
  • Ensure all products are within sell-by dates and rotated using FIFO principles
  • Maintain full product ranges on shelves at all times
  • Monitor and report low stock levels, damaged, expired, or out-of-stock items
  • Assist with stock counts, stock files, and general stocktaking
  • Adhere to store layouts, planograms, and Dis-Chem merchandising standards
  • Ensure shelves are neatly packed, correctly priced, and clearly labelled
  • Build, face-up, and maintain merchandising displays
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of shelves and storerooms
  • Assist with loading and off-loading of stock
  • Support back shopping and training of new staff
  • Provide courteous, professional customer service and product assistance
  • Follow up on customer out-of-stock queries
  • Minimise losses by handling merchandise carefully
  • Comply with company policies, SOPs, and health & safety regulations

Minimum Requirements

Essential:

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • Up to 6 months retail experience
  • Computer literacy (MS Office)
  • Willingness to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays

Advantageous:

  • At least 1 year retail experience

  • Strong time management abilities

  • Bilingual communication skills
  • Knowledge of merchandising standards and FMCG retail
  • Product and category knowledge
  • Ability to analyse ZMORE reports
  • Awareness of loss prevention and reporting suspicious behaviour

Special Conditions of Employment

  • Willing and physically able to lift and move heavy boxes
  • Reliable transport or residence close to the Musgrave store
  • South African citizenship
