Position Overview

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is building a strategic talent pool for Casual Cashiers at its Sandton City store. This role supports customer service at the point of sale while ensuring accurate transaction processing in line with company policies and standard operating procedures.

Purpose of the Role

  • Deliver excellent customer service at the point of sale
  • Accurately record customer transactions on the Dis-Chem operating system
  • Ensure zero tolerance for inaccuracies and minimise fraud risk
  • Contribute to a safe, efficient, and professional retail environment

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service & Sales Support

  • Adhere to Dis-Chem’s customer service policies and procedures
  • Build professional relationships with customers
  • Report customer complaints and compliments to the Frontline Supervisor or Store Management
  • Maintain awareness of current promotions and sales campaigns
  • Address customer queries regarding store merchandise

Cash Handling & Till Operations

  • Process all transactions accurately, including cash, cards, vouchers, coupons, and other approved payment methods
  • Ensure all line voids and price changes are authorised and signed off
  • Process returns and exchanges when authorised
  • Manage accurate cash flow and place cash in the drop safe according to SOPs
  • Handle daily takings confidentially

Security, Compliance & Risk Control

  • Ensure all outgoing stock and items are scanned and paid for
  • Keep all money securely inside the till
  • Protect personal till codes and passwords
  • Remain alert and report suspicious behaviour to management
  • Adhere strictly to Dis-Chem security policies and procedures
  • Ensure colleagues and customers are not exposed to risk

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric Certificate
  • Minimum 6 months’ cashier or till operations experience
  • Computer literacy (MS Office)
  • Sound numerical skills
  • Strong command of the English language
  • Basic customer service skills
  • Willingness and ability to work retail hours
