Position Overview: Mechanical and HVAC Engineer

BFM is seeking a skilled Mechanical and HVAC Engineer to design, install, maintain, and repair heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems.

The role involves delivering high-quality planned, preventative, and emergency maintenance on air-conditioning, refrigeration, ventilation, and water reticulation systems. The successful candidate will ensure alignment with the organization’s maintenance strategy while maintaining exceptional client service standards.

This opportunity is ideal for an experienced HVAC professional with strong technical expertise in digital control systems and facilities maintenance operations.


Key Responsibilities

The Mechanical and HVAC Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Designing HVAC systems for optimal performance, efficiency, and compliance
  • Managing HVAC projects from initiation to completion, including budgeting and scheduling
  • Conducting routine inspections and preventative maintenance
  • Troubleshooting and repairing HVAC system faults
  • Maintaining air-conditioning, refrigeration, ventilation, and water reticulation systems
  • Ensuring compliance with safety regulations and relevant legislation
  • Collaborating with engineers, technicians, and artisans to ensure smooth system operations
  • Providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians
  • Maintaining accurate documentation and system reports using SAP and MS Office

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Matric (Senior Certificate)
  • N6 in Mechanical Engineering
  • Trade Test in HVAC (Air-conditioning & Refrigeration)
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as an artisan
  • At least 5 years’ relevant experience in HVAC maintenance and digital control systems
  • Minimum 5 years’ trade experience
  • Experience maintaining air-conditioning, refrigeration, ventilation, and water reticulation systems
  • Strong technical understanding of HVAC systems and components
  • Valid South African Driver’s License
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook
  • SAP knowledge
  • Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act
