The Mall of Africa store in Midrand is seeking a qualified and reputable Pharmacist to join its professional dispensary team.


Position Overview

The Pharmacist will be responsible for delivering comprehensive pharmaceutical care by identifying, evaluating, and managing patients’ medicine-related needs. The role requires accountability for ensuring optimal therapeutic outcomes while complying with legal and ethical standards set by the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).

This role combines clinical expertise, retail pharmacy operations, and leadership within a fast-paced retail healthcare environment.


Minimum Requirements

Essential

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • BPharm or equivalent qualification
  • Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council
  • Minimum 2–3 years’ pharmaceutical experience
  • 2–3 years retail pharmacy experience (including Student/Intern experience)
  • Computer literate (MS Office)

Advantageous

  • Retail / FMCG experience
  • Third additional language
  • SAP system experience
  • E-scripting experience
  • Registered Tutor
  • Unisolv experience

Key Responsibilities

Pharmaceutical Care

  • Evaluate patients’ medicine-related needs (indication, safety, effectiveness)
  • Dispense scheduled medicines as prescribed by authorised practitioners
  • Check and sign off prescriptions prepared by assistants or interns in line with GPP requirements
  • Provide pharmacist-initiated therapy where appropriate
  • Offer professional advice and counselling regarding medication use
  • Monitor patient compliance and follow up where necessary
  • Promote public health initiatives

Dispensing & Clinical Oversight

  • Interpret prescriptions accurately and within legal requirements
  • Capture and verify patient information on the system
  • Ensure accurate picking, packing, labelling, and checking of medication
  • Monitor correct dosages and important drug interactions
  • Provide clear instructions regarding medicine usage
  • Stay updated on medical aid procedures and dispensing requirements

Medical Aid & Administrative Duties

  • Process claims accurately for submission to medical aids
  • Correct rejected scripts and secure necessary authorisations
  • Ensure authorisation of chronic, HIV, AIDS, and oncology medication
  • Maintain and update customer profiles
  • Merge profiles locally and notify central systems when required
  • Assist the Dispensary Manager with administrative compliance

Stock & Operational Management

  • Report low or out-of-stock items and stock discrepancies
  • Facilitate bi-annual stock takes
  • Exercise stock, cash, and asset control
  • Ensure all registers are maintained according to legislation
  • Maintain housekeeping standards in line with company policies
  • Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures and Health & Safety regulations
