Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Human Resource Officer to join our team in Potchefstroom, North West. The HR Officer will support the business by managing payroll inputs, employee records, HR administration, wellness programs, and other general HR functions.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring smooth HR operations while supporting employee engagement and compliance with labor regulations.

Key Responsibilities

The Human Resource Officer will be responsible for the following functions:

HR Administration and Recordkeeping

  • Maintain personnel records including new hires, transfers, terminations, and job classification changes
  • Track employee leave, sick days, and personal time
  • Administer local and international student appointments, contracts, and renewals
  • Custodian of all wellness programs and team-building activities

Payroll and HR Compliance

  • Administer payroll entries including working hours, overtime, authorized and unauthorized absences
  • Reconcile payroll information before submission to HR Management
  • Monitor unemployment claims and review supporting documentation as required by the Department of Labour

Employee Relations and Recruitment

  • Arrange and administer disciplinary inquiries and other Industrial Relations activities
  • Maintain HR and disciplinary databases
  • Advertise vacancies on approved platforms
  • Receive and collate applications, schedule interviews, and manage psychometric assessments
  • Conduct onboarding for successful candidates and issue regret letters to unsuccessful applicants

General HR Support

  • Coordinate baseline medical examinations and schedule follow-ups
  • Support HR initiatives to promote employee engagement and compliance
  • Perform ad hoc HR administration duties as required

Minimum Requirements

Candidates should meet the following criteria:

  • Matric Certificate; additional HR qualifications are an advantage
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in HR or payroll administration
  • Proven administrative skills with strong HR acumen
  • Attention to detail and analytical thinking ability
  • Sense of urgency and ability to work under pressure
  • Valid South African driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications / Skills:

  • Previous exposure to HR and payroll systems
  • Previous experience in an HR environment

Working Hours

  • Monday to Friday: 07:30 – 16:00
  • Occasionally required to work outside standard hours
