Position Overview

The Chief Steward will oversee all operations within the stewarding department of a hospitality establishment. This role is responsible for managing a team of stewards and ensuring that all food and beverage service areas remain clean, organised, and compliant with hygiene regulations.

The successful candidate will coordinate with kitchen and service teams, manage supplies and equipment, and ensure that all operational areas meet the highest standards of cleanliness and safety.

Key Responsibilities

Stewarding Team Management

  • Supervise and manage a team of stewards and support staff
  • Oversee hiring, training, scheduling, and performance management
  • Provide leadership to ensure efficient departmental operations

Hygiene and Sanitation Standards

  • Ensure strict sanitation and hygiene standards in all food and beverage areas
  • Monitor cleaning procedures and enforce compliance with food safety regulations
  • Maintain a safe and hygienic work environment

Inventory and Supply Management

  • Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and stewarding equipment
  • Coordinate ordering and stock control to ensure operational readiness
  • Ensure equipment is maintained and functioning properly

Event and Dining Area Coordination

  • Oversee the set-up and breakdown of banquet and dining areas
  • Ensure all service areas are prepared for events and daily operations
  • Coordinate with culinary and service teams for smooth service delivery

Operational Collaboration

  • Work closely with kitchen staff, chefs, and service teams
  • Ensure smooth workflow between stewarding and hospitality operations
  • Support operational teams in maintaining efficient service delivery

Budget and Cost Control

  • Monitor and manage the stewarding department budget
  • Control expenses related to cleaning supplies, equipment, and operations
  • Identify opportunities to improve cost efficiency without compromising quality

Minimum Requirements

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in stewarding or hospitality management

Qualifications

  • Qualification in Hospitality Management or a related field is advantageous

Certifications (Advantageous)

  • Food Safety and Sanitation Certification
