Position Overview
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Merchandiser for its South Coast store in Margate. This entry-level opportunity is ideal for candidates interested in retail merchandising, stock control, and customer service.
The successful candidate will ensure that all merchandise is correctly stocked, displayed, and maintained according to Dis-Chem’s standards, while contributing to an excellent in-store shopping experience.
Key Responsibilities
Merchandising & Stock Management
- Restock shelves to ensure maximum product availability and sales performance
- Ensure all stock is correctly packed and displayed on shelves
- Monitor and remove expired, damaged, or non-compliant stock
- Implement FIFO (First-In, First-Out) stock rotation procedures
Store Presentation & Displays
- Maintain clean, organised, and visually appealing store displays
- Ensure correct product pricing, labelling, and shelf presentation
- Build and maintain merchandising displays according to planograms
Inventory & Stock Control
- Assist with stocktaking and inventory counts
- Report low stock, out-of-stock items, and discrepancies to management
- Assist with loading and off-loading of stock deliveries
Customer Service
- Provide friendly, helpful, and professional assistance to customers
- Resolve customer stock queries and follow up where required
Compliance & Operations
- Adhere to Dis-Chem’s policies, SOPs, and health & safety regulations
- Ensure correct uniform and badge are worn at all times
- Minimise stock losses by handling merchandise carefully and reporting suspicious activity
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric Certificate
- Up to 6 months retail experience
- Computer literacy (MS Office)
- Willingness to work retail hours (including weekends and public holidays)
Advantageous Skills
- At least 1 year retail experience
- Knowledge of FMCG merchandising standards
- Bilingual communication skills
- Ability to analyse stock reports (e.g., ZMORE reports)
