Position Overview
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for a Dispensary Support staff member for its Vanderbijlpark store. This fixed-term contract is ideal for learners interested in completing the learner basic pharmacist assistant course, gaining practical dispensary experience. Permanent employment is offered once the learner successfully registers with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a basic pharmacist assistant.
Key Responsibilities
Pharmacy & Dispensing Support
- Assist in the sale of Schedule 1 medicines under direct pharmacist supervision
- Support compounding, manipulation, or preparation of non-sterile medicines following SOPs
- Accurately interpret and assist with script picking, packing, labelling, and checking
- Ensure all medications are checked and signed by a pharmacist
Stock & Inventory Management
- Receive, unpack, and organise dispensary stock, maintaining clean and orderly shelves
- Monitor expiry dates and stock levels, ensuring proper rotation (FIFO)
- Report low stock, out-of-stock items, and discrepancies to the dispensary manager
Customer & Patient Service
- Follow up on script tracking reports and patient appointments as requested
- Provide guidance and information to customers to promote health awareness
- Assist with scheme authorization for chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medication
Compliance & Administration
- Follow SOPs and company policies, ensuring compliance with pharmaceutical regulations
- Maintain accurate documentation, perform basic computer tasks, and uphold confidentiality
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric or Senior Certificate with at least 50% in Pure Mathematics, Life Science, or Physical Science
- Completion of a proficiency test for SAPC learner basic pharmacist assistant registration
- Proficiency in English and a second language (reading, writing, speaking)
Advantageous Skills
- Retail or Dis-Chem front shop experience
- Knowledge of drug, family planning, and complementary medicine
- Familiarity with Unisolv, SAP, or e-Scripting systems
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
