Position Overview
Grain Field Chickens is seeking a Farm Services Manager to oversee integrated farm services, logistics, and broiler production operations. The successful candidate will manage staff, maintain biosecurity standards, coordinate procurement, and ensure efficient logistics and operational compliance. This is a strategic role that combines management, technical expertise, and hands-on operational responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and approve departmental expenditures within approved budgets
- Coordinate and monitor daily logistics operations, including poultry catching, litter removal, and farm cleaning
- Supervise and train staff, motivating employees to maintain high standards
- Ensure biosecurity and animal welfare compliance in all farm operations
- Maintain and manage equipment and fleet, ensuring regular maintenance and safety checks
- Draft and manage cleaning and catching schedules
- Provide technical support to producers and ensure compliance with broiler housing and equipment standards
- Liaise continuously with internal departments, suppliers, and customers regarding product quality and operational standards
- Prepare inventory and consumption reports for management
- Conduct safety inspections, accident investigations, and compliance audits
- Ensure all operations comply with health, safety, and environmental legislation
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / NQF Level 4 Equivalent
- Formal qualification in Animal or Poultry Production
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in agricultural logistics, preferably in poultry
- Experience with poultry catching, house cleaning, litter removal, and biosecurity management
- Knowledge of mechanical and haulage systems, including medium to heavy vehicles and trailers
- Willingness to travel daily between farms and work long hours including weekends

- Intermediate MS Office skills and report writing
- Ability to conduct non-conformance audits and implement safety systems
- Strong leadership, communication, and presentation skills
- Ability to engage with growers, suppliers, contractors, and stakeholders
- Adaptability, ownership, and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of OHS requirements and environmental stewardship
