Position Overview
The Part-Time Teaching Experience Supervisor supports the professional growth of student teachers during their school-based teaching practice. The role involves observing, mentoring, assessing, and reporting on student performance to ensure alignment with institutional standards and national teaching benchmarks.
Key Responsibilities
Supervision of Teaching Practice
- Conduct school visits to observe student teachers in classrooms
- Assess lesson planning, delivery, and classroom management
- Provide constructive feedback to student teachers for professional growth
Mentorship and Support
- Act as a mentor and guide for student teachers
- Assist with reflection on performance, identifying strengths and improvement areas
- Recommend teaching methods and approaches to enhance learning outcomes
Assessment and Reporting
- Complete observation reports and assessment rubrics
- Submit accurate and timely reports to the Teaching Practice Office
- Participate in marking processes when required
Collaboration and Communication
- Maintain communication with student teachers, mentor teachers, and institutional coordinators
- Attend training, briefing, and feedback sessions
- Uphold ethical conduct and confidentiality
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) – Intermediate or Foundation Phase
- Honours degree in Education
- Postgraduate qualification in Education (advantageous)
Professional Experience:
- 1–3 years teaching experience in the relevant phase
- Experience in mentoring or supervising student teachers (preferred)
- Knowledge of CAPS curriculum and inclusive education
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to provide constructive feedback
- Proficiency in assessing lesson plans, teaching practice, and reflective journals
- Tech-savvy: comfortable using Zoom, Teams, Google Classroom, etc.
- Attention to detail and excellent report-writing skills
Other Requirements:
- SACE registration (essential)
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transport for school visits
- Clean criminal record
- Availability during school hours and university term dates
