Position Overview
The Student Wellness Manager oversees the psychosocial wellbeing of distance learning students. This role provides counselling, life skills development, and social education programs, ensuring students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
The successful candidate will manage counselling services, community engagement initiatives, student council activities, and social awareness campaigns while reporting on key performance areas.
Key Responsibilities
Counselling
- Deliver primary counselling services, trauma containment, and crisis management
- Promote counselling services to students
- Maintain case files and statistics in compliance with SACSSP/HPCSA standards
Community Engagement
- Plan and manage campus-specific community engagement projects
- Ensure effective functioning of the Student Council CE committee
- Monitor, evaluate, and analyse projects to measure impact
Student Council Management
- Oversee the Student Council election process
- Facilitate training, team building, and development opportunities for council members
- Encourage active participation in campus life and committees
Social Awareness & Education
- Design and implement social awareness campaigns addressing campus-specific needs
- Evaluate and analyse programmes to inform future planning
Reporting
- Provide fortnightly reporting on key performance areas
- Submit consolidated semester reports
- Update online tracking systems and graduate databases
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications:
- NQF Level 8 qualification in Social Work or Counselling Psychology
- NQF Level 9 qualification advantageous
- Registration with SACSSP (Social Worker) or HPCSA (Counsellor/Psychologist)
Experience:
- 1–2 years of face-to-face counselling experience post-qualification
- 2–3 years working with youth
- Comfortable using technology for client file management
- Availability for evenings and weekends is an advantage

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to implement social awareness and community engagement programmes
- Proficiency in student support, counselling, and reporting
- High emotional intelligence and problem-solving abilities
