Position Overview
The Faculty Manager – Teaching Experience & Languages ensures the implementation of academic policy and the delivery of quality teaching and learning. This role oversees Programme Coordinators and Lecturers, conducts lecturer peer reviews, monitors student performance, and drives results-oriented interventions.
The Faculty Manager also ensures smooth academic operations, timely release of marks, recruitment support, and all related staff administration while fostering a strong academic culture on campus.
Key Responsibilities
Academic Support
- Oversee academic development and performance monitoring of faculty staff
- Conduct lecturer peer evaluations and reviews
- Monitor faculty performance and student engagement
- Conduct structured class visits to assess teaching and learning quality
- Analyse student evaluations of teaching (SET)
Teaching & Learning
- Engage directly with students to ensure academic success at module level
- Support student development, both in and out of the classroom
- Participate in Programme Coordination Committee meetings
- Contribute to module improvements and assessment development
Resource & Staff Management
- Recruit and manage faculty resources, including Programme Coordinators, lecturers, contractors, and tutors
- Collaborate with supporting teams: Academic Operations, Career Centre, ICT staff
- Onboard new staff and support their professional development
- Create and manage campus timetables
- Promote a strong academic culture and teaching excellence
Leadership & Administration
- Monitor and implement student support interventions
- Oversee teaching and learning strategies on campus
- Coordinate student admission and integration into programs
- Ensure adherence to academic regulations and deadlines
Minimum Requirements
Education & Qualifications:
- Honours Degree in Education (NQF Level 8)
- Master’s Degree in Education (advantageous)
Experience:
- 5+ years lecturing experience in Higher Education
- 3–5 years in teacher or lecturer development
- Understanding of South African Higher Education regulatory framework
Core Competencies:
- Knowledge of teaching and learning theory and interventions
- Ability to provide student support services
- Competence with digital academic platforms
- Adaptable to change and evolving academic environments
- Deadline-oriented with strong time management skills
Working Hours:
- Scheduled classes from 08:00 – 17:00, Monday to Friday (depending on module allocation)
