Position Overview
The Production Manager leads the end-to-end operations of a centralised sauce manufacturing plant, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant production. This role drives output, maintains quality standards, manages production teams, and ensures smooth coordination with warehouse and dispatch functions.
The ideal candidate has proven leadership experience in food or beverage production, strong technical knowledge of manufacturing systems, and a commitment to food safety, compliance, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Production Planning and Execution
- Develop and manage daily, weekly, and monthly production plans based on demand, plant capacity, and stock requirements
- Oversee raw material preparation, bulk handling, cooking, cooling, storage, filling, packaging, and dispatch support
- Monitor process performance to meet output, yield, labour efficiency, and service targets
- Ensure production records, batch documents, and traceability requirements are completed accurately
Process Improvement & Compliance
- Identify and resolve process bottlenecks, implementing improvements to enhance throughput and reduce waste
- Support new equipment commissioning, validation, and production trials
- Ensure compliance with FSSC22000, HACCP, GMP, OH&S, and internal quality standards
- Promote a culture of safety, hygiene, and food safety compliance throughout the plant
Team Leadership & Performance
- Lead, develop, and manage production teams, including shift structures, labour deployment, training, coaching, and performance management
- Build a high-performance culture focused on accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement
- Coordinate with warehouse and dispatch teams to ensure timely availability of raw materials, packaging, and finished goods
Minimum Requirements
- BEng, BTech, or National Diploma in Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, or Process Engineering, or equivalent experience
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in food, beverage, sauce, or liquid processing manufacturing
- Proven experience in batch processing, cooking, cooling, storage, filling, and packaging operations
- Working knowledge of plant utilities (boiler, softener, air compressor, chiller, cooling tower, diesel systems)
- Strong understanding of food safety, FSSC22000, HACCP, GMP, and OH&S compliance
- Proven team leadership experience in a manufacturing environment
