Position Overview
RCL Foods is currently recruiting a Quality Assurance Technologist for its Baking Division in Rustenburg. Reporting to the QA Food Safety Manager, this role is responsible for managing daily QA operations and ensuring compliance with food safety standards and quality management systems.
This position is ideal for candidates with strong experience in ISO standards, food safety systems, and quality assurance within the FMCG sector.
Key Responsibilities
Quality & Food Safety Management
- Manage all QA and Food Safety activities at the Sunbake Rustenburg site
- Ensure compliance with ISO 22000, FSSC 22000, HACCP, and QMS standards
- Maintain third-party and customer quality standards
- Ensure final product quality and safety through positive release processes
Quality Management Systems (QMS)
- Implement and maintain QMS and customer-specific requirements
- Manage testing processes, including internal and external laboratory testing
- Ensure compliance with national legislation and regulatory requirements
- Maintain QA databases, procedures, and calibration systems
Food Safety Systems
- Implement and maintain food safety systems aligned with FSSC 22000
- Conduct monthly food safety audits and annual management reviews
- Manage food safety team training and development
- Investigate customer complaints and implement corrective actions
Audits & Compliance
- Conduct internal and external audits, including supplier audits
- Manage non-conformance processes and corrective actions
- Ensure readiness for third-party audits and certifications
- Maintain compliance with hygiene, GMP, and sanitation standards
Supplier & Service Provider Management
- Manage suppliers and external service providers (e.g. pest control, cleaning)
- Ensure supplier compliance with food safety standards
- Oversee procurement of laboratory consumables and services
Team Leadership & Budget Control
- Supervise QA team members and allocate tasks effectively
- Manage staff performance, training, and development
- Control costs related to testing, labour, and equipment maintenance
- Ensure procurement processes and invoices are handled efficiently
Minimum Requirements
- BSc in Consumer Science / Food Science or BTech in Food Technology
- Minimum 3+ years’ experience in Quality Assurance and Food Safety
- Experience with ISO 22000 and FSSC 22000 implementation
- HACCP and QMS knowledge
- Lead Auditor experience
- Strong understanding of legislative processes
- Computer literacy and data analysis skills
