About the Role

The General Assistant in the Building Department plays a critical operational role in keeping the Brights Hardware Richmond Park yard running safely and efficiently. Yard Operations & Customer Loading

  • Load customer vehicles, local delivery trucks, and inter-branch transfer trucks promptly, safely, and accurately according to purchase slips and dispatch orders.
  • Safely handle and fill LPG gas cylinders in full compliance with company operating procedures and health & safety regulations.
  • Provide friendly, attentive customer service in the yard and store, assisting buyers with building material inquiries and product details.
  • Assist in pulling accurate stock batches for scheduled inter-branch transfers and customer deliveries.
  • Fill and package bulk aggregates, including the bagging of sand and stone, into standard trade quantities.

Stock Handling & Housekeeping

  • Ensure building stock, timber, and masonry materials are safely stacked, neatly aligned, and accurately counted.
  • Conduct routine physical inventory checks and participate actively in periodic and perpetual stocktakes.
  • Report stock shortages, damaged merchandise, or material breakages immediately to yard supervisors to minimize operational losses.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping across the yard by sweeping, organizing pallet zones, and maintaining clear walkways.
  • Perform any additional work-related operational tasks delegated by yard managers or departmental superiors.

Educational Qualifications

  • Grade 12 / Matric Certificate or equivalent qualification.

Work Experience & Technical Competencies

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a similar retail, building materials yard, or warehouse environment (Preferred).
  • Ability to safely handle and fill gas cylinders following regulatory safety guidelines.
