Seriti is a major player in the mining industry, dedicated to operational excellence and safety. We are looking for a skilled Fitter UG to join our team at New Denmark Colliery in Mpumalanga. This role involves the maintenance and repair of underground mining equipment to ensure its availability and reliability.

Role Overview:
The Fitter UG will be responsible for the safe maintenance and repair of equipment, ensuring compliance with engineering standards and safety regulations. The role requires performing inspections, documenting maintenance activities, and working independently to address equipment faults.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform maintenance and repairs on underground equipment to ensure reliability
  • Ensure compliance with Mine Health and Safety Act and internal standards
  • Record inspections, maintenance, and repairs on checklists and job cards
  • Identify faults and repair defects independently
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Conduct risk assessments to ensure safe working conditions
  • Be prepared for shift work, overtime, and standby duties

Requirements:

  • Recognized Fitter Trade Test Certificate
  • Internal Candidates: Grade 12 with Math (Not Literacy) & Science, minimum E symbol with relevant N2 Trade subjects as per MQA guidelines, or N2 with four relevant trade subjects
  • External Candidates: Grade 12 with Math (Not Literacy) & Science, minimum E symbol with four relevant N2 Trade subjects
  • Sound knowledge of MHSA, safety systems, and equipment
  • Excellent safety record and understanding of equipment/tools
  • Good communication skills and ability to work under pressure
  • Valid K53 driver’s license and own transport
  • Valid Certificate of Fitness or ability to obtain one

Advantageous:

  • Underground technical experience
  • At least 2 years of post-trade experience
  • Experience with conveyor systems, pumps, crushers, compressors, and hydraulic systems
  • Familiarity with specific underground machinery and equipment
  • Safety & Risk Management Course (S2)
