About the Job:
The General Assistant will provide comprehensive customer service in-store, manage the merchandising of stock, maintain housekeeping standards, and ensure compliance with safety and operational procedures within their designated area.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Customer Service
    • Advise and assist customers on product selection and queries.
    • Handle and resolve customer complaints.
  2. Merchandising Standards
    • Merchandise bulk stock safely according to store layout.
    • Ensure your area is fully stocked according to planograms.
  3. Housekeeping
    • Keep your area free of obstacles and maintain clear aisles for customers.
    • Correctly label shelf prices in your area of responsibility.
    • Complete checklists for canteen, toilet, and shower maintenance when on duty.
  4. Safety (OHSA) Requirements
    • Comply with OHSA safety standards, including the use of safety gear.
    • Ensure that stock is merchandised safely to prevent injuries.
    • Report any safety discrepancies to the Store Manager.
  5. Stock Loss Management
    • Report damaged stock to the Store Manager.
  6. Drive for Results
    • Meet targets and complete work accurately.
    • Deliver work that meets company quality and standards.
  7. Problem Solving
    • Identify and resolve problems within your department.
    • Escalate issues when necessary, using available information.
  8. Decision Making
    • Make decisions within company policies and guidelines.
    • Consider the consequences of decisions within your area of responsibility.
  9. Planning and Handling Pressure
    • Plan your tasks within department procedures and manage pressure effectively.
  10. Collaboration and Communication
    • Demonstrate courtesy and willingness to assist customers, suppliers, and colleagues.
    • Share relevant information with stakeholders effectively and courteously.

Requirements:

  • Minimum Grade 10 or NQF 3 with one year of related work experience, or Grade 12 without work experience.
  • Proficiency in English and the dominant local language.
  • Valid South African ID or work permit.
  • Ability to perform basic calculations accurately.
  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain a high standard of customer service.

This role requires individuals who can manage their areas efficiently, solve problems proactively, and deliver high standards in customer service and store operations.
