Job Overview

Brights Hardware is looking for a Department Supervisor for their Plumbing Department at their Brackengate branch. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing department operations, ensuring sales targets are met, maintaining housekeeping standards, and providing excellent customer service. This role requires strong leadership, merchandising knowledge, and staff management to ensure the department runs smoothly and profitably.

Key Responsibilities

βœ” Department Management – Ensure smooth running of the Plumbing Department.
βœ” SOP Compliance – Ensure standard operating procedures are followed by staff.
βœ” Staff Supervision – Assign and monitor staff duties, uniforms, and performance.
βœ” Sales & Customer Service – Drive sales, facilitate departmental sales meetings, and ensure customer satisfaction.
βœ” Stock & Returns Management – Monitor returns, faulty stock, breakages, and update the CFC book.
βœ” Reporting & Analysis – Prepare and submit weekly and monthly performance reports.
βœ” Scheduling & Attendance – Manage staff schedules, leave requests, and overtime approvals.
βœ” Performance Reviews – Conduct staff performance evaluations, nominate for promotions/awards.
βœ” Training & Development – Train new and existing staff on product knowledge and store procedures.
βœ” Merchandising & Housekeeping – Conduct regular inspections on aisles, stock displays, and cleanliness.
βœ” Returns & Damaged Stock – Implement company returns policy, ensuring damaged stock is handled correctly.
βœ” Discipline & Compliance – Enforce company disciplinary policies and handle disputes professionally.
βœ” Stock Control & Audits – Participate in perpetual stock takes to maintain inventory accuracy.
βœ” Other Duties – Handle any additional tasks assigned by management.

Job Requirements

βœ… Education & Experience:
βœ” Matric (or equivalent) qualification required.
βœ” Higher Certificate or Diploma (advantageous).
βœ” Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar supervisory role.
βœ” 3 years’ experience in the hardware/plumbing retail industry.
βœ” Previous experience in a department supervisor role.
βœ… Skills & Competencies:
βœ” Leadership & Staff Management – Ability to train, motivate, and discipline staff effectively.
βœ” Product Knowledge – Understanding of plumbing products & stock management.
βœ” Merchandising & Sales – Knowledge of intermediate-level merchandising and retail best practices.
βœ” Communication & Interpersonal Skills – Strong ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
βœ” Time Management & Planning – Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work under pressure.
βœ” Problem-Solving & Dispute Management – Experience handling disciplinary actions and dispute resolution.
βœ” Technical Skills – Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Email, Internet).
βœ” Brights Leadership Training & Service Excellence Induction (Preferred).
