About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Fleet Manager (Logistics) to oversee the management and optimization of our company’s fleet, which includes trucks, bakkies, tractors, trailers, and front loaders. This role will ensure the efficient utilization, cost control, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence of the fleet.

The successful candidate will be responsible for vehicle procurement, disposal, maintenance coordination, fleet safety, and logistics performance optimization.

Key Responsibilities

Fleet Operations Management

  • Oversee daily fleet operations to ensure maximum efficiency and minimal downtime.
  • Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules to reduce vehicle breakdowns.
  • Ensure compliance with transport laws, safety regulations, and fleet licensing requirements.
  • Monitor fleet utilization, fuel consumption, repairs, and maintenance costs, ensuring cost-effective operations.
  • Optimize fleet scheduling to enhance operational efficiency and service delivery.

Procurement & Budget Management

  • Manage procurement of new fleet vehicles and oversee the disposal/sale of outdated vehicles.
  • Monitor and manage fleet budgets, ensuring cost control in fuel, repairs, maintenance, and operational expenses.
  • Establish cost-saving strategies while maintaining fleet reliability and compliance.

Technology & Performance Tracking

  • Utilize fleet management systems and GPS tracking software to monitor fleet performance and generate operational reports.
  • Recommend technology-driven solutions to enhance fleet efficiency and cost management.

Team Leadership & Safety Compliance

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team of Fleet Supervisors, Drivers, and Technicians.
  • Enforce safety protocols and implement continuous driver training programs.
  • Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in fleet management, logistics, or transportation.
  • Proven experience in managing large fleets and implementing operational improvements.

Technical Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of fleet management systems and GPS tracking software.
  • Expertise in vehicle maintenance schedules, repair coordination, and logistics cost control.
  • Proficiency in budgeting, contract management, and cost optimization.
  • Strong analytical skills with data-driven decision-making abilities.
  • In-depth understanding of transport laws, fleet safety regulations, and compliance requirements.
