Job Description
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for Casual Cashiers to join their Jean Avenue Store. This role is part of a strategic talent pool, designed to create a pool of qualified individuals for future job opportunities at Dis-Chem Pharmacies. As a Casual Cashier, you will support customer service at the point of sale while ensuring a seamless shopping experience and following company policies for accurate transactions and fraud prevention.

Essential Requirements

• Grade 12 / Matric
• Minimum of 6 months’ cashier/till operations experience
• Computer literate (MS Office)
• Sound numerical skills
• Strong command of the English language
• Basic customer service skills
• Willingness and ability to work retail hours

Key Responsibilities

• Adhere to Dis-Chem’s customer service policies and procedures
• Build professional relationships with customers
• Report customer complaints and compliments to management
• Maintain awareness of sales and promotions
• Ensure customer and colleague safety, adhering to security and safety procedures
• Manage cash flow and ensure all payments are processed accurately
• Handle various payment methods, including loyalty cards (e.g., Discovery Health Care, Medihelp, Momentum Multiply)
• Ensure that all money is kept secure in the till
• Process exchanges and returns when authorized
• Maintain confidentiality of daily takings, discussing only with management
• Report suspicious behavior and ensure security measures are followed

Competencies

• Essential:

  • Knowledge of operating cash registers and managing cash drawers
  • Ability to process sales, refunds, and payments
  • Strong communication skills (English)
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Presentable with emotional intelligence and social awareness
  • Accountability and problem-solving skills
  • Trustworthy and honest with good time management

• Advantageous:

  • Knowledge of a third additional language
