As a Field Technician, you will play a vital role in keeping assigned sites compliant, fully operational, and within SLA agreements.


Role Purpose

The main goal of the Field Technician is to manage and execute planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and corrective maintenance (CPM) on all non-network infrastructure at designated sites. This includes air-conditioning systems, electrical plants, and general facilities infrastructure.

The successful candidate will support both internal teams and clients by ensuring that all tasks are performed to high safety, quality, and efficiency standards. You will work closely with Regional and Portfolio Managers and serve as the technical point of contact for multiple sites.


Key Responsibilities

As a Field Technician, your daily tasks will include:

Site Maintenance and Compliance

  • Maintain assigned telecommunications sites according to specific scopes of work provided by clients.

  • Complete daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance targets with accuracy and efficiency.

  • Restore sites to standard within required Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

Asset and Tool Management

  • Ensure proper care and use of all equipment including vehicles, test instruments, laptops, and mobile phones.

  • Maintain a register of all tools and devices to ensure they are in good working condition and safe for use.

Health and Safety Compliance

  • Adhere strictly to Bidvest FM and client health and safety protocols at all sites.

  • Report any unsafe conditions immediately to management for action.

Team Supervision and Reporting

  • Manage assistant technicians daily, monitor performance, and report any irregularities.

  • Ensure task completion within set timelines, provide regular updates, and escalate issues as needed.

  • Keep all communication channels, including email and phone, active and responsive during working hours.

Quality and Process Adherence

  • Follow all work access procedures and ensure real-time status updates.

  • Identify and recommend potential site enhancements or repairs needing authorization.

  • Uphold quality requirements across all technical interventions.


Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for the Field Technician position, you must meet the following minimum requirements:

Educational Requirements

  • Matric / Grade 12 Certificate

  • National N4 Certificate in Electrical Engineering (Trade Theory)

  • Electrician Qualification (Trade Test – 26D or Section 28)

  • Wireman’s License – mandatory

  • Refrigeration Trade Test – advantageous but not essential

Experience

  • 3 to 5 years of hands-on Preventative and Corrective Maintenance experience

  • Knowledge and work experience in GSM and Core Network Telecommunications Environments

Licensing

  • Valid Code 10 (EB) Driver’s License

  • 4×4 driving or advanced driving certification is an added advantage
