Position Overview: Dispensary Support Learnership

Dis-Chem is offering an exciting entry-level pharmacy learnership opportunity for aspiring healthcare professionals in Vanderbijlpark.

This role is designed to help candidates complete the Basic Pharmacist Assistant Course, combining practical workplace experience with formal training. Successful candidates will be employed on a fixed-term contract and may be offered permanent employment upon successful registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 medicines under pharmacist supervision
  • Support the preparation and compounding of non-sterile medication
  • Accurately pick, pack, label, and check prescriptions
  • Maintain stock control, including expiry date checks and shelf organisation
  • Assist with unpacking and merchandising pharmacy stock
  • Follow up with patients regarding prescriptions and appointments
  • Provide basic health and medication-related information to customers
  • Assist with chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medication authorisations
  • Support call centre operations and patient communication
  • Ensure compliance with pharmacy regulations and SOPs

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric) or Senior Certificate
  • Minimum 50% in:
    • Pure Mathematics
    • Life Science and/or Physical Science
  • Willingness to complete a pharmacist assistant learnership programme

  • Familiarity with systems like Unisolv, SAP, or E-Scripting
  • Additional language proficiency

Special Conditions of Employment

  • Must pass a proficiency test for SAPC registration
  • South African citizenship required
  • Clear criminal and credit record (MIE verification)
