Position Overview

Bidvest Prestige is currently recruiting a Training Officer – Food Hygiene based in Germiston. This role is ideal for experienced professionals in food safety, compliance, and training who are passionate about developing teams and maintaining high standards.

You will be responsible for designing, delivering, and managing training programs while ensuring compliance with food safety regulations, health and safety standards, and environmental requirements. Key Responsibilities

Operational Training & Skills Development

  • Deliver training on food hygiene, HACCP, health & safety, and environmental compliance
  • Conduct inductions, refresher courses, and task-specific training
  • Coach supervisors and operational leaders

Training Needs Analysis

  • Assess training needs through audits, inspections, and performance reviews
  • Align training programs with organisational and regulatory requirements

Programme Design & Delivery

  • Develop and update training materials, SOPs, and work instructions
  • Source and evaluate external training resources when needed

Food Safety & HACCP Compliance

  • Support implementation and maintenance of HACCP systems
  • Train staff on hazard identification, CCPs, and contamination prevention
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and quality standards

Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance

  • Deliver training on OHS legislation and environmental practices
  • Conduct risk assessments and hazard identification
  • Promote sustainability and waste management practices

Cleaning Systems & Equipment Training

  • Train staff on safe use of cleaning machinery and chemicals
  • Ensure correct handling, storage, and dilution of chemicals

Audits & Compliance Monitoring

  • Prepare teams for internal and external audits
  • Conduct compliance inspections and audits
  • Maintain audit-ready documentation and records

Non-Conformance Management

  • Manage non-compliances and corrective actions
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement solutions
  • Deliver retraining to prevent recurrence

Performance & Reporting

  • Evaluate training effectiveness and competency levels
  • Maintain accurate training and compliance records
  • Support reporting requirements and budget planning

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Food Science, Food Technology, Training, Quality, or related field
  • Assessor/Facilitator certification (advantageous)

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in training, compliance, or quality within the food or hygiene industry
  • Proven experience with:
    • Food safety and hygiene
    • HACCP systems
    • Health, safety, and environmental compliance
    • Audits and inspections
    • Non-conformance management
