Position Overview: Artisan Assistant – Engineering Services
VKB Group is seeking 2 Artisan Assistants to support maintenance and repair operations across silo facilities in Douglas.
This is a hands-on technical role ideal for individuals who are eager to learn, physically capable, and interested in mechanical and electrical work within the agricultural engineering environment.
You will assist qualified artisans with maintenance, repairs, and installations across multiple silo sites.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance Support
- Assist with preventative maintenance on silo infrastructure
- Support inspections of equipment, valves, chutes, and mechanical systems
- Assist with basic repairs under supervision
Mechanical & Electrical Work
- Perform basic electrical tasks using tools such as grinders, drills, and meters
- Assist with welding, cutting, fabrication, and fitting activities
- Support assembly and repair of mechanical components
Engineering Assistance
- Work closely with artisans during installations and repairs
- Assist in fabrication and mechanical builds
- Clean and maintain electrical and mechanical equipment
Site Operations
- Travel between silo sites for maintenance and emergency work
- Maintain clean and safe working environments
- Comply with all health and safety regulations
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / NQF Level 4
- Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude
- Experience with basic tools (grinders, drills, spanners, etc.)
- Physically fit and able to work at heights and confined spaces
- Willingness to travel frequently between sites
- Valid driver’s licence (advantageous)
- Trade certificate (advantageous)
- Previous technical or maintenance experience beneficial
