Building Maintenance Officer – Head Office (Edenvale)

Signature Cosmetics is looking for an experienced and hands-on Building Maintenance Officer to join their Head Office team. This role is ideal for a technically skilled professional with strong facilities and property maintenance experience in a retail environment.

Role Purpose
To provide both technical and administrative support to ensure the efficient, cost-effective, and compliant execution of building maintenance, retail store projects, and facilities-related tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct quality inspections on maintenance and project work completed by contractors and internal teams
  • Ensure all maintenance tasks align with the approved Maintenance Plan
  • Schedule and oversee store maintenance, including air conditioning, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, pest control, and general repairs
  • Manage and complete job cards from the Maintenance Tracker
  • Perform minor maintenance tasks and travel to retail outlets when required
  • Supervise workshop teams and contractors, ensuring high-quality workmanship and productivity
  • Liaise with contractors, landlords, Centre Management, and government departments
  • Source quotations from approved and new suppliers, ensuring compliance with specifications
  • Handle council submissions, including shop drawings, occupancy certificates, trading licences, and fire clearance certificates
  • Monitor compliance documentation such as Certificates of Compliance and maintain accurate records
  • Conduct property inspections at Head Office and retail sites

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • Diploma/Degree in Construction Management, Project Management, SAFMA certification, or a related field
  • Valid Code 8 driver’s licence

Experience & Skills

  • 3–5 years’ experience in facilities, property, or retail maintenance environments
  • 3–5 years’ experience supervising technical teams and managing contractors
  • Strong knowledge of building maintenance systems (electrical, air conditioning, carpentry, plumbing, etc.)
  • Experience working with municipalities, Centre Management, and regulatory bodies
  • Understanding of legal and compliance requirements, including OHASA
  • Experience in asset management and insurance claims processing
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with root cause analysis as an advantage
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
