About the Resident Engineer Role
The Resident Engineer will oversee maintenance and repair operations of plant equipment, ensuring maximum uptime and production efficiency. This role requires strong engineering leadership, deep mining experience, and hands-on technical expertise in heavy industrial environments.
You will work closely with cross-functional teams to optimize plant performance and ensure compliance with strict safety and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
Plant Maintenance & Engineering Management
- Manage maintenance and repair activities for plant equipment
- Implement preventive and corrective maintenance programs
- Ensure high equipment reliability and reduced downtime
Production Optimization
- Collaborate with operational teams to meet production targets
- Improve plant efficiency and throughput
- Support continuous improvement initiatives
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with mining safety regulations
- Promote a strong safety culture across operations
- Support audits and regulatory inspections
Technical Leadership
- Provide engineering guidance to plant personnel
- Troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical issues
- Support technical decision-making on-site
Budget & Cost Control
- Monitor and control maintenance expenses
- Ensure cost-effective maintenance planning
- Support capital and operational budgeting processes
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- GCC Mines & Works certification
- Degree or Diploma in:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
Experience
- 5+ years’ experience as a GCC Engineer (post-trade)
- Strong mining industry experience required
- Exposure to:
- Iron Ore
- Manganese
- Diamond mining operations
Technical Expertise
- Extensive experience in crushing and screening plants
- Strong understanding of plant maintenance systems
- Hands-on engineering problem-solving experience
Other Requirements
- Valid South African Driver’s License
