Position Overview

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is currently recruiting a Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant for its Verdi store in Randburg. This role is ideal for a qualified and SAPC-registered professional who is passionate about pharmaceutical care and patient service within a high-volume retail pharmacy environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the pharmacist by ensuring safe, accurate dispensing of medication, providing patient counselling, and maintaining compliance with all legal and operational standards.


Key Responsibilities

Pharmaceutical Dispensing & Patient Care

  • Assist with the dispensing and sale of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines
  • Support the preparation, compounding, and manipulation of non-sterile medicines under pharmacist supervision
  • Accurately interpret prescriptions and ensure correct labelling, packaging, and supply
  • Provide clear and accurate medication instructions to patients
  • Advise patients on self-medication, front-shop products, and healthcare queries

Compliance & Professional Practice

  • Operate strictly within SAPC regulations and the Medicines Act
  • Ensure all dispensed medication is checked and signed off by a pharmacist
  • Maintain accurate patient profiles and ensure correct medical aid authorisations
  • Process chronic, HIV/AIDS, oncology, and specialised medication authorisations

Stock & Operational Control

  • Assist with ordering, receiving, and controlling pharmacy stock (Schedule 1–6)
  • Merchandise stock according to FEFO principles
  • Report low stock levels, discrepancies, and stock errors
  • Participate in bi-annual stock takes and asset control procedures

Administrative & Systems Support

  • Capture prescription details accurately on the pharmacy system
  • Process medical aid claims and resolve rejected scripts
  • Maintain accurate documentation for compliance and audit purposes
  • Follow up on script tracking reports and patient appointments as required

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification
  • Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
  • Experience working on Unisolv
  • Computer literacy (MS Office)
  • Strong numerical and administrative skills
  • Excellent command of English and one additional language
  • Willingness to work retail and weekend hours

Advantageous Experience & Skills

  • Previous experience in retail pharmacy or FMCG environments
  • Knowledge of SAP and E-Scripting systems
  • Third additional language proficiency
  • Experience with family planning, complementary medicine, and scheduled drugs
