As part of its continued growth, homechoice is seeking a highly analytical and driven Senior Credit Analyst to join its Decision Science team.


Position Overview

This Senior Credit Analyst job in Cape Town sits at the intersection of data science, credit risk analytics, and collections strategy. The role focuses on leveraging data, statistical modelling, and predictive analytics to improve credit decisioning, portfolio performance, and collections efficiency.

You will play a key role in supporting responsible credit growth while ensuring the stability and performance of retail credit portfolios.


Key Responsibilities

Credit Risk & Collections Analytics

  • Analyze credit portfolio performance across acquisition, account management, and collections
  • Identify trends, risks, and opportunities in customer credit behavior
  • Provide insights to improve collections strategies and portfolio quality

Data Processing, Selections & Implementation

  • Develop and maintain data processing procedures and customer selections
  • Extract, transform, and analyze large datasets using SQL and analytical tools
  • Collaborate with Business and IT teams to implement data-driven strategies

Predictive Model Monitoring & Support

  • Monitor and maintain predictive models used in credit risk and collections
  • Identify model performance issues and prevent degradation
  • Develop scripts and processes for model tracking and data integrity

Reporting & Analytical Insights

  • Produce accurate and actionable reports for credit risk and collections teams
  • Apply statistical techniques to validate findings and quantify uncertainty
  • Present insights clearly to support business decisions

Best Practice & Analytical Standards

  • Apply best practices in statistical analysis and coding
  • Improve documentation, processes, and analytical standards within the team

Data Science Toolkit & Automation

  • Enhance analytical codebases and data tools
  • Develop automated processes to improve efficiency and accuracy
  • Ensure proper logging, monitoring, and data quality checks

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, or related field
  • Honours Degree (advantageous)

Experience & Skills

  • Experience in credit risk analytics, collections analytics, or data science
  • Strong programming skills in:
    • SQL
    • SAS
  • Proficiency in Excel and reporting tools
  • Understanding of:
    • Credit risk management
    • Collections strategies
    • Retail credit portfolios
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis and predictive modelling
  • Experience with SAS or similar platforms (advantageous)
  • Exposure to fraud analytics (beneficial)
