Job Overview:
Tiger Brands, Africa’s largest listed FMCG manufacturer, is seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager to ensure that our bakery plants are mechanically operational at all times. This role is essential for maintaining the efficiency and quality of our production processes, ensuring the continuous delivery of our iconic food products.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintenance Scheduling:

  • Develop and manage planned maintenance schedules, updating them as necessary.
  • Conduct regular plant inspections to identify and address unplanned maintenance needs.
  • Oversee the issuance of job cards and ensure the completion of maintenance tasks.
  • Approve engineering spares within budget constraints, ensuring quality maintenance on designated days.

CAPEX Budgeting:

  • Understand plant requirements to plan and manage CAPEX budgets, including a 5-year plan.
  • Prepare and submit CAPEX motivations in alignment with Tiger Brands’ standards.

People Management:

  • Foster a high-performance culture through regular engagement with employees, including union interactions.
  • Identify talent and implement strategies to close competency gaps, ensuring training aligns with PDPs.
  • Maintain workplace discipline and manage employee relations issues in accordance with company policies.

Health, Safety, and Environment:

  • Ensure a safe working environment by adhering to OHSAct and conducting risk assessments.
  • Promote environmental awareness within the manufacturing environment, focusing on water conservation, noise pollution, and waste management.

Audits:

  • Lead and manage various audits, including engineering, risk, environmental (ISO 14001), DQS, and BMR audits.

Financial Management:

  • Analyze cost drivers and develop strategies to reduce expenses.
  • Monitor and manage the Cost Per Loaf (CPL), addressing variances between budgeted and actual costs.
  • Oversee stock movement, ensuring spares are booked out on job cards and stock takes are accurate.
  • Provide timely and accurate reports related to supply chain, environmental impact, and scorecard performance.

Technical Operations:

  • Ensure specialized equipment operates correctly, including the calibration of scaling weights, water and dough temperatures, and mixer energy watt hours.
  • Ensure adherence to process SOPs and conduct root cause analysis for all breakdowns.
  • Drive the implementation of the PM pillar of MECP, focusing on continuous improvement.

Quality and Hygiene:

  • Oversee equipment settings, process checks, and hygiene standards, ensuring alignment with SOPs.
  • Conduct self-assessments on all Tiger standards, including sanitation, traceability, and allergen management.

Essential Spares Management:

  • Review and ensure the availability of essential spares to maintain plant operations.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Minimum of 5 years in a leadership role within the FMCG sector, preferably in Bakeries.
  • Proficient in computer systems, with experience in computerized maintenance systems (CMS).
  • In-depth understanding of the practical application of the OHSAct.
  • Experience with bakery processes and equipment.
  • Strong financial acumen, including budgeting and CAPEX planning.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies and environmental regulations.
  • Minimum of a Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Trade Test certification in electrical or mechanical engineering.
