Job Description:

RCL Foods is seeking a Shift Team Leader for their Groceries Division, based in Randfontein. This role is essential for overseeing routine analysis, testing, and sample handling within the laboratory. The Shift Team Leader ensures that all lab testing adheres to ISO 17025 standards and is responsible for implementing and maintaining the accreditation, ensuring the timely and accurate collection, testing, and reporting of results to the plants.

Key Responsibilities:

• Sample Collection & Analysis:
  • Collect samples as required for analysis.
  • Analyze raw materials, intermediate products, final products, and shelf-life products according to the product test checklist.
  • Record results in the Database Management System (DMS/SHERQX).
• Equipment & Calibration:
  • Perform internal calibrations as per schedule.
  • Ensure all lab equipment is properly calibrated and current before use.
• Non-Conformance Management:
  • Issue Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) for out-of-specification results and communicate them to the plants.
  • Follow up on products placed on hold, ensuring accurate communication of quantity and product details to the Senior Lab Analyst and Plant.
• Verification & External Testing:
  • Verify product identification provided by the factory.
  • Facilitate sample preparation for external testing.
  • Ensure sufficient retention samples are collected and stored according to requirements.
• Quality Control (QC):
  • Ensure all QC charts are completed and verified according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and equipment procedures.
  • Report any deviations in QC charts to the Senior Lab Analyst.
• Accreditation & Audits:
  • Participate in AFCO Proficiency Testing (PT) and Lab Inter/Intra Lab testing.
  • Assist in the validation of non-validated methods and equipment.
  • Participate in Lab Internal Audits to maintain SANAS accreditation and ensure continuous improvement.
• Training & Development:
  • Facilitate the training of junior staff and Lab interns to ensure full competency in lab test methods, equipment, and ISO 17025 standards.

Minimum Requirements:

• Educational Qualification:
  • Completed NDip/BTech/BSc in Food Technology, Biotechnology, or a related field.
• Experience:
  • Minimum of 1 to 2 years of relevant working experience in a laboratory setting with knowledge of ISO 17025 and other food standards such as HACCP, GMP, and FSSC 22000.
• Skills:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong understanding of laboratory procedures and quality control standards.
