About the Role

A well-established and customer-centric organization is seeking a highly skilled Employee Relations Practitioner to provide expert guidance on employee relations matters, ensuring compliance with South African labour laws and company policies. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing disciplinary processes, facilitating grievance resolution, and representing the company at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation, and Arbitration (CCMA).

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert advice on employee relations issues in alignment with labour laws and company policies.
  • Ensure consistent application of company policies and procedures across all business units.
  • Manage and oversee disciplinary processes, grievances, and conflict resolution, ensuring compliance with legal and organizational frameworks.
  • Conduct investigations, compile detailed reports, and facilitate disciplinary hearings as necessary.
  • Ensure proper documentation and record-keeping of all employee relations matters.
  • Represent the company at the CCMA and provide administrative/logistical support in CCMA and Labour Court litigation.
  • Assist in drafting and amending employment-related documents, policies, and procedures to align with evolving legislation and business needs.
  • Provide legal opinions and recommendations to management on labour law matters.
  • Analyze employee relations data, compile reports, and propose strategic recommendations for addressing workplace challenges.
  • Contribute to budget planning, invoicing, and preparing reports for executive committees (Exco).
  • Support the Senior Employee Relations Practitioners and Manager with ad hoc duties as required.

Minimum Requirements

  • LLB Honours Degree (or equivalent qualification in Labour Law).
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience specializing in Labour Law and Employee Relations.
  • Admitted Attorney status (advantageous but not mandatory).
  • In-depth knowledge of South African labour legislation, including the Labour Relations Act, Basic Conditions of Employment Act, and related regulations.
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • High level of discretion, professionalism, and attention to detail.
