About Us
Thorburn Security Solutions is seeking a highly motivated candidate to fill the role of Security Manager in the mining environment. Reporting to the Regional Manager, the Security Manager will monitor security operations, implement security regulations, and ensure a safe environment for employees and visitors.

As part of the Tsebo Solutions Group, we provide clients with reduced costs, risks, and complexities while enhancing quality, efficiency, and productivity. We specialize in catering, facilities management, cleaning, hygiene, pest control, protection, energy, procurement, workspace design, engineering, and remote camps.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Develop security procedures to support the security strategy.
• Assess security risks and implement measures to protect staff, visitors, buildings, assets, and reputation.
• Ensure security layers are audited and maintained appropriately.
• Manage employee schedules according to contract requirements.
• Provide guidance to staff and develop a reputation for operational excellence.
• Maintain records of operational security decisions with due regard for sensitivity.
• Implement disaster preparedness and emergency response strategies.
• Prepare business continuity plans and ensure optimal workforce planning.
• Deploy qualified security officers as per contract requirements.
• Lead on operational security issues, ensuring assets and resources are directed to prevent/respond to incidents.
• Ensure day-to-day contract management for security services and systems.
• Report security weaknesses and breaches upwards.
• Recommend improvements to contracts and service delivery for modern, innovative services.
• Hold regular meetings with service providers and prepare reports for contract review meetings.
• Adhere to the Thorburn Safety, Health, Environmental, and Quality (SHEQ) Management System’s Policies and Procedures.
• Perform any reasonable actions requested by management.

Skills and Competencies

• Experience in the mining environment.
• Knowledge of South African security legislation, including the Mine Health and Safety Act, Criminal Procedure Act, and others.
• Familiarity with security operational processes, health and safety legislation, and MS Office.
• Strong organization, leadership, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage and motivate teams for optimal performance.
• Knowledge of security systems, incident/accident investigation, and logistics/equipment maintenance.
• Knowledge of crime scene investigation and CCTV systems is advantageous.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
• Security management qualification (advantageous).
• PSIRA Grade A certificate.
• Valid driver’s license.
• SAPS competency to handle a handgun and shotgun (business purposes).
