Purpose of the Position
The role of the Part-Time Sales Assistant is to create a positive in-store experience for our customers, boost sales, minimize losses, and contribute to the store’s overall performance. You will work closely with other team members to achieve sales targets, maintain inventory, keep the store organized, and make sure customers feel welcome and supported throughout their shopping experience.
Key Responsibilities
As a Sales Assistant at PEP, your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
1. Customer Service Excellence

Greet and welcome customers as they enter the store.

Assist customers in finding products, sizes, or alternatives.

Provide accurate product information and recommendations.

Respond to customer inquiries, complaints, and concerns in a professional manner.

Promote customer loyalty and satisfaction through friendly, helpful service.
2. Sales Support

Promote current sales, promotions, and product features.
-
Upsell and cross-sell where appropriate to increase average basket size.

Meet and exceed individual and team sales targets.

Monitor product trends and customer buying patterns.
3. Cash Handling and Register Duties
-
Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system accurately.
-
Process payments, refunds, and exchanges according to company policies.

Handle cash responsibly and maintain a balanced till.
-
Ensure customer transactions are completed efficiently and without errors.
4. Stock Management
-
Receive and unpack stock deliveries.
-
Organize and replenish shelves with stock, ensuring proper merchandising.

Conduct stock counts and assist in inventory control.
-
Alert management of stock shortages or damaged goods.
5. Store Appearance and Maintenance
-
Keep the store clean, organized, and visually appealing at all times.

Follow merchandising and display guidelines.

Maintain safety and security by following company procedures.
6. Team Collaboration

Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and store events.

Support colleagues during peak periods or when help is needed.

Demonstrate a strong work ethic and a team-player attitude.
Minimum Requirements
To be eligible for this position, you must meet the following criteria:

Matric (Grade 12) Certificate – compulsory
-
Previous experience in retail, sales, cashiering, customer service, or a similar role
-
Must live within a 10 km radius of Moreleta Park
-
Clear criminal record
-
Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, public holidays, and shifts
-
Basic computer literacy (e.g., understanding POS systems)

Good communication skills in English

Friendly, honest, and reliable

A genuine passion for customer service and retail
Preferred Attributes and Competencies
While not essential, the following would be considered advantageous:

Previous work experience in a retail clothing or homeware store

Ability to speak multiple South African languages
