Role Purpose
The purpose of this role is to ensure the timeous and quality execution of planned, preventative, and emergency maintenance tasks on all allocated equipment and building infrastructure, in alignment with both the Client’s expectations and internal SLA requirements.
As a handyman, you will be responsible for maintaining the overall condition and performance of various facilities systems, helping ensure operational efficiency, safety, and compliance at all times.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
As a Handyman in Facilities Maintenance, you will carry out the following key tasks:
General Maintenance and Repairs

Complete daily job cards/work orders according to client and company standards

Investigate and repair minor faults across mechanical and electrical systems

Conduct small-scale carpentry tasks such as repairing doors, locks, windows, ceiling tiles, and installing furniture

Perform basic plumbing repairs, including fixing leaks, replacing washers, and clearing blockages
Electrical and Mechanical Tasks

Carry out repairs and servicing of basic electrical systems and appliances

Conduct regular checks on electrical tools and mechanical equipment
Air-Conditioning and Ventilation

Perform Tier 1 inspections and repairs on air-conditioning units

Assist with identifying faults in HVAC systems and escalate complex issues to the Artisan or Facilities Manager
Fire and Access Equipment

Conduct visual inspections and report conditions of fire safety equipment such as extinguishers, hose reels, hydrants, fire detectors, and access control systems
Support to Technicians and Management

Provide support to Artisans during major repairs

Communicate job progress and restoration updates to the Facilities Manager or Building Manager

Ensure that all repairs and inspections comply with health and safety guidelines
Minimum Requirements and Qualifications
To qualify for this position, the ideal candidate must meet the following requirements:

Matric / Senior Certificate

N3 Technical Qualification in either Electrical or Mechanical

Valid South African Driver’s License

Minimum of 3 years’ experience in building maintenance and handyman tasks

Basic knowledge and practical training in the use of electrical and mechanical hand tools

Familiarity with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems
