Job Overview
AFGRI is currently seeking a qualified and experienced Technician to join their team in Thabazimbi. The successful candidate will be responsible for repairing and maintaining agricultural and related equipment, ensuring that all machinery operates efficiently and meets customer expectations. This role is ideal for a hands-on, technically skilled individual with a background in John Deere equipment and a passion for agricultural technology.
As a Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring that customers receive top-quality service and that their farming equipment remains in optimal condition. You will handle service, maintenance, and repair tasks while maintaining the company’s high standards of safety, quality, and professionalism.
Minimum Requirements
Education and Training
-
N2 Qualified Technician (Technical qualification essential).

Completion of an accredited Apprenticeship program in a relevant field will be advantageous.
Work Experience
-
At least 3 years of hands-on experience working with John Deere equipment, including training as an apprentice.

Proven ability to diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults in agricultural machinery.

Previous experience in a service or maintenance role within the agricultural or mechanical industry will be highly advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
As a Technician at AFGRI, your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

Repair and Maintenance of Equipment

Perform professional repairs and maintenance on tractors and related agricultural equipment.

Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues, determine the root cause, and implement appropriate repair solutions.

Carry out routine servicing to ensure machines operate at peak performance levels.

Customer Service and Relationship Management

Build and maintain strong, lasting relationships with customers in the agricultural community.

Ensure that all customer queries, complaints, and requests are handled efficiently within the company’s prescribed turnaround time.

Provide expert technical advice and support to customers, ensuring they fully understand the maintenance requirements of their machinery.

Administrative and Reporting Duties

Accurately update job cards and service reports after each maintenance or repair task.

Maintain proper documentation and ensure that all service activities are recorded for future reference.

Report equipment issues, maintenance needs, and parts requirements to the Service Manager.

Health, Safety, and Compliance

Maintain a clean, safe, and organized working environment at all times.

Use protective gear and adhere strictly to health and safety protocols.

Ensure compliance with all Health and Safety regulations as outlined by company policy and South African law.

Immediately report any safety hazards, near misses, or incidents to the appropriate supervisor.

Valid driver’s license (essential).

Strong technical knowledge of tractor and agricultural equipment maintenance.
