Core Responsibilities of the Assistant Director: ICT Security
1. ICT Security Operations Coordination
- Administer and monitor firewall activities to prevent unauthorized access.
- Monitor DMZ network zones and generate compliance reports.
- Track user activity on networks and escalate violations or suspicious activity.
- Conduct monthly and quarterly ICT security reports for management and governance purposes.
2. Data and System Integrity Protection
- Conduct network penetration tests and vulnerability assessments.
- Perform backup testing for data integrity and restoration.
- Maintain and update systems at the Disaster Recovery (DR) site in line with the DR Plan.
- Ensure proper email archiving for compliance and data retention.
3. Risk Assessment and Compliance Monitoring
- Identify ICT security threats, vulnerabilities, and risks; escalate complex issues as needed.
- Evaluate software and hardware systems quarterly and submit risk reports.
- Conduct market research and benchmarking on ICT security technologies.
- Maintain detailed documentation of system/network changes and security measures.
4. Application Testing and Deployment
- Certify software and hardware before installation or implementation.
- Test new applications and systems to ensure they meet security and operational requirements.
- Provide technical input for network upgrades, design, and installations.
- Ensure approved projects are securely deployed to web applications and internal systems.
5. Resource Management and Awareness Campaigns
- Conduct ICT security maintenance and awareness campaigns for staff.
- Maintain accurate registers for ICT equipment and software records.
- Verify proper disposal of outdated equipment in compliance with departmental policies.

Required Qualifications and Attributes
- Education: NQF Level 7 qualification in ICT or a related field (recognized by SAQA).

- Technical Knowledge: Firewall systems, DMZ zones, hacking/penetration tests, server hardware/software, backup & recovery, disaster recovery testing, ICT audit standards.
- Skills & Competencies: Project management, troubleshooting, analytical evaluation, excellent written and oral communication, customer service, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Personal Attributes: Ability to manage multiple projects, tactical thinking, proactive problem-solving, and strong leadership.
