Key Responsibilities

As a Cashier, you will be responsible for supporting store operations through exceptional customer service and accurate processing of transactions. Core duties include:

Customer Service & Frontline Engagement

  • Deliver service in accordance with Dis-Chem’s customer service principles.

  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with customers.

  • Handle customer compliments, concerns, and queries, escalating to supervisors when needed.

  • Stay informed about current promotions, special offers, and loyalty rewards.

Point-of-Sale Operations

  • Process all customer purchases across multiple payment methods (cash, card, vouchers, coupons, and partner rewards).

  • Capture all transactions using the Dis-Chem operating system while ensuring accuracy at every step.

  • Handle returns, exchanges, and authorisations as per store procedures.

  • Ensure correct scanning and payment for all merchandise, items, or scripts exiting the store.

  • Maintain control over cash drawers, secure till contents, and place money into the drop safe in compliance with SOPs.

Security, Compliance & Fraud Prevention

  • Adhere strictly to all Dis-Chem security policies.

  • Keep personal access codes secure and change passwords regularly.

  • Report suspicious behaviour or potential risk situations immediately to management.

  • Uphold an uncompromising standard of honesty, with zero tolerance for inaccuracies or fraud.


Minimum Requirements

Essential

  • Grade 12 / Matric

  • At least 6 months’ experience in cashiering or till operations

  • Basic computer literacy (MS Office)

  • Strong numerical ability

  • Strong command of English (spoken and written)

  • Basic customer service skills

  • Willingness to work retail hours (weekends, holidays, shifts)

Advantageous

  • Ability to speak a third additional language

  • Retail cashiering experience in a high-volume store
