About the Role

The Goods Receiving Supervisor is responsible for managing the full receiving process of stock delivered from suppliers and other stores. This includes verifying deliveries, updating system records, ensuring accurate labelling, and distributing stock to the sales floor for merchandising.

The role requires strict attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and the ability to maintain accuracy in all stock-related documentation and system updates.


Key Responsibilities of a Goods Receiving Supervisor

Stock Receiving & Verification

  • Receive and return stock to and from suppliers and other stores
  • Verify stock against supplier invoices, delivery notes, and purchase orders
  • Ensure correct physical counting and balancing of goods received
  • Capture stock accurately onto the IT system within required timeframes
  • Ensure discrepancies are corrected and signed off by suppliers

Inter-Branch Transfers (IBT)

  • Process all inbound and outbound IBT stock movements
  • Ensure documentation accuracy for all transfers
  • File and maintain all IBT records properly
  • Resolve discrepancies between stores and ensure timely processing

Stock Distribution & Floor Readiness

  • Ensure received stock is cleared from the receiving area promptly
  • Distribute stock to the sales floor for merchandising
  • Maintain efficient flow of goods from receiving to shelf availability

Labelling, Pricing & Compliance

  • Label stock correctly with SKU numbers where required
  • Ensure pricing accuracy in line with Cashbuild policies
  • Apply price changes according to operational guidelines
  • Rectify incorrect product or SKU labelling where necessary

Supplier Claims & Documentation Control

  • Process supplier claims with supporting documentation
  • Attach credit notes and delivery corrections to adjustment vouchers
  • Ensure all claims are authorised by the Store Manager
  • Ensure claims are only raised when stock collection is required

Security & Store Control

  • Maintain strict control of receiving area access
  • Ensure receiving documents and stamps are securely stored
  • Keep receiving office locked when not in use
  • Prevent unauthorised access or loitering in receiving areas

Store Readiness & Housekeeping

  • Maintain clean and organised receiving area at all times
  • Ensure damaged or excess stock is properly managed
  • Follow all “Ready for Business” standards and procedures

Minimum Requirements – Goods Receiving Supervisor

Education:

  • Grade 12 (Matric) required

Experience:

  • 1–2 years related experience in retail receiving or stock control
  • Experience in goods receiving or warehouse operations (advantageous)

Skills & Competencies:

  • Above-average numeric ability (essential)
