Position Overview
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for an experienced Cashier (Fixed-Term) for its Watercrest store. This role is ideal for candidates with retail cashier experience who are passionate about delivering a world-class customer experience.
You will be responsible for processing transactions accurately, managing cash flow, and ensuring compliance with Dis-Chem’s strict policies on accuracy and fraud prevention.
Key Responsibilities
Point of Sale Operations
- Accurately process all transactions (cash, cards, vouchers, coupons)
- Operate the till system in line with company SOPs
- Ensure all items are scanned and paid for before customers leave
- Handle refunds and exchanges when authorised
Cash Handling & Security
- Manage daily cash flow and maintain secure cash handling practices
- Ensure all cash is safely stored in the drop safe
- Maintain confidentiality of daily takings
- Report suspicious behaviour and prevent fraud risks
Customer Service Excellence
- Provide professional and friendly service to all customers
- Address customer queries regarding products and store services
- Handle complaints and compliments, escalating when necessary
- Maintain strong relationships with customers
Compliance & Store Operations
- Adhere to Dis-Chem’s 5-star communication principles
- Stay updated on promotions and store campaigns
- Ensure all price changes and voids are properly authorised
- Follow all company security and operational procedures
Loyalty & Rewards Processing
- Process loyalty programs including:
- Discovery Health
- Medihelp Lifestage
- Momentum Multiply
- Legacy Lifestyle
- ABSA Rewards and eBucks
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric
- Minimum of 6 months’ cashier/till experience
- Computer literacy (MS Office)
- Strong numerical skills and accuracy
- Good command of the English language
- Basic customer service skills
- Willingness to work retail hours
Advantageous Skills
- Additional language proficiency
- Experience in high-volume retail environments
- Knowledge of loyalty and rewards systems
