Position Overview
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant for its Oudtshoorn store. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about pharmaceutical care, patient support, and retail pharmacy operations.
You will support the pharmacist in delivering safe, compliant, and efficient medication services while ensuring excellent customer service and adherence to regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Pharmaceutical & Dispensing Support
- Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines
- Support the compounding and preparation of non-sterile medicines
- Accurately interpret prescriptions under pharmacist supervision
- Ensure correct labelling, packaging, and supply of medication
Stock & Inventory Control
- Manage stock of Schedule 1–5 medicines
- Assist with ordering medicines up to Schedule 6
- Monitor stock levels and report shortages or discrepancies
- Ensure proper stock rotation using FEFO principles
- Participate in stocktaking and inventory control
Patient Care & Customer Service
- Provide professional advice on medication use
- Assist patients with medical aid queries and cost explanations
- Maintain and update patient profiles
- Promote health awareness and wellness education
Administrative & Compliance Duties
- Capture prescription details accurately on systems
- Process claims and resolve rejected scripts
- Ensure authorisation for chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology treatments
- Maintain compliance with SAPC regulations and Dis-Chem SOPs
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric certificate
- Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification
- Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical practices and regulations
Advantageous Skills & Experience
- Retail or FMCG pharmacy experience
- Experience with Unisolv, SAP, and E-Scripting systems
- Oncology experience
- Additional language proficiency
- Knowledge of complementary medicine and family planning

Special Conditions of Employment
- Must be registered with SAPC
