Position Overview
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant for its Scottburgh Mall store. This role focuses on delivering high-quality pharmaceutical care, ensuring patients receive safe, effective medication and professional healthcare advice.
You will work closely with pharmacists to support dispensing operations, maintain compliance with regulations, and provide exceptional customer service in a fast-paced retail pharmacy environment.
Key Responsibilities
Pharmaceutical & Dispensing Support
- Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines
- Support the compounding and preparation of non-sterile medicines
- Accurately interpret prescriptions under pharmacist supervision
- Ensure correct labelling, packaging, and supply of medication
Stock & Inventory Management
- Control and manage stock of Schedule 1–5 medicines
- Assist with ordering medicines up to Schedule 6
- Monitor stock levels and report shortages or discrepancies
- Ensure proper stock rotation using FEFO principles
- Participate in regular stock takes
Patient Care & Customer Service
- Provide guidance on medication usage and health-related queries
- Assist patients with medical aid claims and cost explanations
- Maintain accurate patient profiles and records
- Promote health awareness and wellness initiatives
Administrative & Compliance Duties
- Capture prescription details accurately on systems
- Process medical aid claims and resolve rejected scripts
- Ensure authorization for chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology treatments
- Maintain compliance with pharmacy regulations and SOPs
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric certificate
- Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification
- Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical practices and regulations
Advantageous Skills & Experience
- Retail or FMCG pharmacy experience
- Familiarity with Unisolv, SAP, and E-Scripting systems
- Oncology experience
- Additional language proficiency
- Knowledge of complementary medicine and family planning
