Position Overview
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is currently recruiting a Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant for their Westville store. This role is ideal for candidates passionate about pharmaceutical care, patient support, and retail pharmacy operations.
You will be responsible for supporting the pharmacist in delivering safe, effective, and compliant medication services while ensuring customer satisfaction and adherence to regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
Pharmaceutical Support & Dispensing
- Assist in the sale of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines
- Support the preparation, compounding, and packaging of non-sterile medicines
- Accurately interpret prescriptions and assist in dispensing medication
- Ensure proper labelling, packing, and patient instructions
Stock & Inventory Control
- Manage stock of Schedule 1–5 medicines
- Assist in ordering medicines up to Schedule 6
- Monitor stock levels and report shortages
- Participate in bi-annual stock takes
- Ensure compliance with FEFO (First Expiry, First Out)
Patient Care & Customer Service
- Provide professional advice to patients on medication use
- Explain medical aid costs and procedures
- Maintain and update patient profiles
- Promote health awareness and wellness education
Administrative Duties
- Capture and verify prescription data accurately
- Process claims and resolve medical aid rejections
- Ensure proper authorization for chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medications
- Maintain accurate documentation for compliance
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric certificate
- Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification
- Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
- Strong understanding of pharmaceutical practices
Advantageous Skills & Experience
- Experience in retail pharmacy or FMCG sector
- Knowledge of Unisolv, SAP, and E-Scripting systems
- Oncology experience
- Additional language proficiency
- Knowledge of complementary medicine and family planning

Special Conditions of Employment
- Must be registered with SAPC
- Willing to work retail hours, including weekends
- Physically fit and able to stand for long periods
- South African citizen with a valid driver’s license
- Clear criminal and credit record
