Job Purpose

The Lecturer – Intermediate Phase Social Sciences will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction to students, facilitating consultations, marking assessments, conducting results analysis, and supporting at-risk students.

This role is ideal for an experienced educator or lecturer with a strong background in Social Sciences, including History and Geography, and a passion for teacher training.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

  • Present lectures in physical and online classrooms.
  • Deliver engaging content in Social Sciences education.
  • Prepare lesson materials and academic resources.
  • Use digital learning platforms effectively.

Student Support

  • Conduct academic consultations with students.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship.
  • Implement interventions for at-risk students.

Assessment and Feedback

  • Mark assignments, tests, and examinations.
  • Provide constructive feedback.
  • Analyse module results and recommend improvements.

Research and Academic Development

  • Contribute to curriculum enhancement.
  • Support academic research and development initiatives.

Administrative Duties

  • Maintain accurate records.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and academic planning.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

Applicants must possess:

  • B.Ed. Honours Degree (NQF Level 8).
  • Teaching and Learning/Pedagogy module in undergraduate or postgraduate studies.
  • Social Sciences subjects (History and/or Geography) completed to at least NQF Level 6.

Experience

  • 2–3 years of lecturing or tutoring experience.

Required Skills and Knowledge

  • Teaching and learning theory.
  • Assessment methods and processes.
  • Student support interventions.
  • Knowledge of the South African higher education system.
  • Digital literacy and academic platforms.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
